The Civil Surgeon was forcibly retired for chanting the “Joy Bangla” slogan. The Health Ministry issued a notification on Sunday designating Dr. Jalal Uddin Ahmed, the Civil Surgeon of Bagerhat, as an officer on special duty (OSD) for chanting the “Joy Bangla” slogan at the end of a speech during the government immunization campaign. Just one day later, he received another notification announcing his retirement.
The Civil Surgeon was forcibly retired for chanting the Joy Bangla slogan. On Monday (November 4), the Senior Secretary of the Health Ministry, M A Akmal Hossain Azad, announced his retirement.
It stated that because Dr. Jalal Uddin Ahmed, the Civil Surgeon of Bagerhat district, has completed 25 years of service and the government believes it is necessary to retire him from public service in the public interest, he is being retired from government service under the authority granted by Section 45 of the Government Service Act, 2018.
It further stated that he would be eligible to retirement benefits under the regulations. This order, made in the public interest, will become effective immediately.
Earlier, on Sunday, Shobhan Rangsaa, Senior Assistant Secretary of the Health Services Division of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, signed a notification stating that Dr. Jalal Uddin Ahmed, Bagerhat’s Civil Surgeon, will be relieved of duty on November 3. He would begin working as an OSD for the Health Directorate on November 4.
It is worth noting that on October 24, during a vaccination program against the Human Papillomavirus (HPV), which causes cervical cancer, Dr. Jalal Uddin Ahmed delivered a speech at Bagerhat Government Girls’ School in the presence of District Commissioner Ahmed Kamrul Ahsan.
He ended his address by chanting the “Joy Bangla” slogan.
