Two members of the free book distribution and hoarding gang were arrested, and two (2) truckloads of books were seized. The Dhaka Metropolitan Police Intelligence Department (DB) has confiscated two truckloads of books and arrested two active members of a book peddling and hoarding ring that distributes free books to elementary and secondary school children. On Wednesday, multiple godowns on Banglabazar Ispahani Street in Sutrapur, the capital, were raided, with books seized and imprisoned. Sirajul Islam Ujjal, 55, and Md. Delwar Hossain, 56, have been arrested.
Two members of the free book: Mohammad Nasirul Islam, Joint Commissioner of the Dhaka Metropolitan Intelligence Police (DB-South), stated this during a news conference on Thursday at the DMP Media Center on Minto Road in the capital.
Nasirul Islam stated that two truckloads of books were seized based on intelligence that a gang had stockpiled government textbooks for free distribution of classes 1-10 in numerous godowns on Banglabazar’s Ispahani Street. Where there are approximately 10,000 books of various types. The DB official also stated that the court will be ‘advised’ about the seized books before passing them over to the NCTB in accordance with the court’s ‘directions’.
According to DMP, the Kotyali zonal team of the Lalbagh Division of DB carried out this raid in the Banglabazar area based on intelligence that some unscrupulous gangs were selling books for free distribution among students in the open market. Approximately 10,000 books on various subjects from first to ninth grade were seized during the investigation.
According to the DB sources, during the initial interrogation, Atakara and other illegal hoarders had been hoarding and selling these books at the beginning of the year to sabotage the government’s sincere efforts to distribute new textbooks and to gain financially through illegal means. A hunt is on to nab the other members of the gang, the release added.
