Shafiqul Alam stated, “I’ve recently observed that even the beggars at our local mosque recognize me. A few days ago, some young men branded me a ‘public enemy’ as I walked past their gathering. As a result, I may need to relocate to a government flat in the near future. My family is quite concerned about this.
The press secretary expressed his commitment to the region, saying, “In 2014, I purchased a 1,100-square-foot, three-bedroom flat in Shaheenbagh.” My brother and in-laws each contributed some money, and I covered the rest with my savings. I adore this place. However, for security reasons, I may have to leave this flat very soon.”
In his post, Shafiqul Alam provided details about his assets. He stated that he owns a 1,150-square-foot flat in a five-story apartment building that belongs to his father. In 2014, he purchased a three-bedroom, 1,100-square-foot flat in Shaheenbagh with the support of his in-laws and his savings. Additionally, he bought a flat in Mymensingh from his brother-in-law, and his wife inherited a flat from her parents, which serves as a source of monthly income. He also mentioned having 11.4 million BDT (1.14 crore) saved in his bank account, which he attributed to his AFP pension and gratuity funds.
Shafiqul Alam is a journalist by profession. Following the shift of power in the Awami League administration on August 5, 2024, Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus led an interim government. Dr. Yunus acquired the job of Chief Advisor, and since then, Shafiqul Alam has been working as the Press Secretary to the Chief Advisor.
