An American expatriate is robbed upon his return to the homeland. Mohammad Liton, an expatriate from the United States, fell victim to a mugging shortly after returning to Bangladesh. During the attack, assailants vandalized the microbus he was traveling in and looted valuables he had brought for his family.
An American expatriate is robbed: The incident occurred early Wednesday morning (February 19) on the Kochua Road near the Kazirgaon Model Mosque and Islamic Cultural Center in Hajiganj, Chandpur.
According to police and local sources, Liton returned to Bangladesh from the U.S. on Tuesday night. While heading home early Wednesday morning, a pickup truck intercepted his microbus near the Hajiganj Upazila Model Mosque and Islamic Cultural Center. At that point, 7 to 8 armed individuals exited the truck, vandalized the microbus, and looted cash, gold jewelry, and other valuables brought from abroad.
Hajiganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Mohiuddin Farooq stated, “Upon receiving the report, we deployed a force to the scene and initiated a preliminary investigation. The victim’s family has informed us that they will file a formal complaint in the afternoon. Legal action will be taken accordingly.”
