Dhaka’s Jorain turned into a battleground, with police and auto-rickshaw drivers chasing and counter-racing each other. Drivers of battery-powered autorickshaws clashed with police on Friday afternoon, November 22, in Jorain, the capital. As a result, tensions are high across the Jorain region and its environs.
Dhaka’s Jorain turned into a battleground… The drivers of the battery-powered autorickshaws in Jorain jammed the roads and railroad tracks in the afternoon. The commuter train from Narayanganj became stuck at Jorain Railway Station as a result of the traffic stopping. The Nakshikantha commuter train, which was headed for Khulna, was also stranded at the Kamalapur suburban station because of the roadblock.
Police and law enforcement officials tried to disperse the demonstrators after learning of the situation, which resulted in a chase and counter-chase between the two groups. According to witnesses, the police used tear gas multiple times to keep the situation under control. Traffic eventually returned to normal as the demonstrators left the road. But rail service hasn’t started up again yet. The whole region has been tensed since the afternoon.
The Narayanganj commuter train became stalled at Jorain Railway Station at approximately 11:45 AM as a result of the obstruction, according to Kamalapur Station Master Anwar Hossain, who confirmed the suspension of train services. The Nakshikantha commuter train, which is headed for Khulna, is stuck at the Kamalapur suburban station for the same reason. This has caused a disruption in train connectivity between Dhaka and Narayanganj as well as between Dhaka and the Padma Bridge.
