Two RMG factory workers in Gazipur are on strike

Two RMG factory workers in Gazipur are on strike: Today, workers at two clothing companies in the Konabari neighborhood of Gazipur went on strike to demand a number of things.

At 8:00 a.m., employees of the Islam Group and the Tushka Group ceased work and assembled in front of their factory gates, according to our Gazipur correspondent.
The Army, BGB, RAB, Industrial Police, Gazipur Metropolitan Police, and other law enforcement
agencies were on hand to keep the peace till this afternoon, when the report was submitted.
According to sources, workers from the Tushka Group have 16 demands, while those from the Islam
Group began the walkout over 21.
Workers at Islam Group have stated that they want specific personnel, including the factory
manager, fired due to alleged misbehavior.
They also demand full-service benefits, 63 percent of the basic wage, and a Tk 1,000 attendance incentive.
Other demands include a tiffin allowance of Tk 50, a night shift stipend of Tk 200, and a 5% raise in annual wage.
Tushka Group employees, on the other hand, have been demanding daily prayer breaks, a 10%
increase in annual salary, minimum 10-day and 12-day holidays to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-
Azha, respectively, and two days for Durga Puja, as well as holidays for Rabiul Awal and Biswa Ijtima.
Attempts to reach Tushka Group Director Tarek Hasan and Islam Group Administrative Officer Rabiul
Islam for comment were unsuccessful.
Abu Taleb, Additional Superintendent of Police for Gazipur Industrial Police-2 Konabari Zone,
informed The Daily Star that Islam Group employees are likely to return to work soon after
conversations with factory authorities.
While Tushka Group workers remain on strike in front of the factory gates, management and
employees continue to meet.
