Mohammad Jasim Uddin, Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime and Ops) of Dhaka District Police, told a press conference at Dhamrai police station that on September 31, a passenger bus named Islam Paribahan left Panchagarh with 43 people. Seven thieves masquerading as passengers boarded the bus at 4 a.m., when it arrived in Sirajganj’s Koddar Mor district.
At before 5 a.m., when the bus was going through the Tangail bypass region, the thieves held the driver, Mohammad Harun, at knifepoint, threatening him with death, and forced him to step aside while one of them, Sajib, took his position in the driver’s seat. In addition, they stabbed the supervisor in the neck, resulting in significant bleeding. At one point, they forced the driver to operate the bus on the Mirzapur-Kawali Para road. By 7 a.m., they had arrived at the Belishwar area of Sutipara Union in Dhamrai. The bus eventually ended up in a ditch.
During this time, they stole 80,000 takas and other things from the passengers, including mobile phones. When the bus was involved in an accident, the worker cleverly hopped out the window and began shouting, “Robbers! Robbers!” As residents began to come forward, the robbers fled the area. However, the locals apprehended two of them. At the moment, two knives were discovered among them. Following this, during interrogation, the detainees supplied information about another robber who had driven the bus, prompting the police to undertake an operation and arrest him as well. They also confessed to being engaged in the October 25 bus heist.
Mohammad Jasim Uddin stated that four knives used in the robbery and 3,240 takas seized from passengers were retrieved from the arrested men. Four additional people are being sought in connection with this event.
